Freedom

What does it take
to dive, with unheld hand
into the fathomless pool
of each awesome day?

To stand up, square up
to the prospect
of each unlit hour -
no candle of vigil
lit by another?

To stand your ground,
unsheath your sword
and, with sentinel absent,
take on the judgmental,
the searing swathe
of the self-righteous smug?

It takes mettle.
It takes stamina.
It takes spunk.
It takes sheer bloody-mindedness.

And, for this
not insignificant price,
this spicey singular path,
the reward?

Freedom.

Good one Walrus. Defiant and strong. Particularly loved 'spicey singular path' and 'fathomless pool'. I can imagine this as a rap - great rhythm.

A spunky piece with a hint of spice, cooked to perfection.
Freedom can also be a lonely place to be. Well done. xxxxxx Alice

Bobo, Fearless, Alice, thanks. I wrote this to redress the balance. Am surrounded by dear friends, both in and out of relationships who have interesting takes on freedom: some happy without it, some thinking they want it and some not knowing what to do with it once they've got it.

Personally, I couldn't live without it.

Thanks again.
