I was born a blank slate
To be programmed at will
Conditioned and modified to fit the bill
The criteria expected was hard to achieve
I learned in time to turn, the other cheek
You did your best to undermine me
To extract the foibles of my personality
You didn’t like me to question things
I had to accept what you said to me
I always felt that I’d let you down
I made you angry and made you frown
I always felt that you never loved me
A child lost, within her family
I’m older now I can do what I like
I look at you in a different light
I see you as you really are
I no longer need to be your shining star
To be programmed at will
Conditioned and modified to fit the bill
The criteria expected was hard to achieve
I learned in time to turn, the other cheek
You did your best to undermine me
To extract the foibles of my personality
You didn’t like me to question things
I had to accept what you said to me
I always felt that I’d let you down
I made you angry and made you frown
I always felt that you never loved me
A child lost, within her family
I’m older now I can do what I like
I look at you in a different light
I see you as you really are
I no longer need to be your shining star
