WriteWords talks to Roxana Silbert, Literary Director of the Traverse, one of Europe's leading theatres, and gets the inside info on what new writers should do next

Roxana Silbert is Literary Director at the world famous Traverse Theatre, the lynchpin venue for the Edinburgh Festival The job combines the roles of Literary Manager- first port of call for all scripts- and Associate Director. Previously, Roxana was an assistant director at both Paines Plough and the Royal Court theatre, where she directed many hit shows. Her most recent success was directing ‘Iron’, by Rona Munro, which comes to the Royal Court in 2003.

I don’t think you ‘discover’ a new writer. It’s more a case of recognising and then taking a chance on talent.

Different projects have been turning points. I’ve never had a breakthrough project- it’s been much more gradual than that.
