Synopsis for Lost In Freedom
Anya Noskov is post graduate who wants to be a writer. She has planned to accompany her childhood friend Laila Rhamani to Laila’s Aunt Haava’s house for a two week break. Anya will then start a new job at a publishing house in London.
Laila Rhamani is the daughter of a semi-retired Interpreter who works for the Iranian Embassy in London England - his name is Azed Rhamani.
The opening three chapters (in first person P.OV.-Anya’s voice):
15th July 2004
Anya and Laila are at a Motorway stop courtyard – partway through the journey to Aunt Haava’s. Anya is thinking about how and when to tell Laila something.
***
In a flash back (in Mr Rhamani’s Study) Anya relates how three days earlier (12th July) she was asked by Mr Rhamani to wait until they reached the motorway stop and then she was to tell his daughter they would not be going to Haava’s that day – as both girls had expected – but a few days later. Anya recalls how she was told that there was a security scare at the Embassy and that Mr Rhamani had explained they would be escorted to a safe place for a few days until the threat was over. She is given a brown paper package with some details about the escorts and who to speak to about how and when they (the girs) will be met. She is not told where they are going. She is not happy about being asked but agrees because of her loyalty to the family. Whilst in the study alone Anya sees a framed poem in Farsi, with an English translation. She takes a photograph of it with her mobile phone then copies it into her notebook. She leaves the study and the house (end of flash back). End of flashback
15th July: Motorway Stop:
Anya is still thinking about how she is going to tell Laila that they are not waiting for Haava to pick them up, but are in reality waiting to be escorted to safety for a few days. Anya sees one of the men she knows is one of their escorts (the body-guard) on the forcourt – Laila sees and comments on him too but doesn’t know who he is – Anya pretends she doesn’t know who he is either. Laila leaves Anya alone; Anya begins to panic and decides she can’t go through with telling Laila the real reason they’re there and that she must phone Mr Rhamani. On her way to make the call she meets the private detective (he introduces himself) who is to be the other escort. However, it is not the man Anya is expecting to see. The man tells her his boss (whom Anya was expecting) couldn’t come and he was there to replace him. When Anya speaks to Mr.R he agrees that he (Mr R.) will phone and tell his daughter himself; and confirms what the Private detective told Anya.

Chapter four-in third person Omniscient P.O.V.
12th July 2004
Anya has just left Mr. Rhamani’s study. Mr. Rhamani waits until she leaves the house and then walks across the hall to a smaller study to talk to his sister Haava. It becomes obvious by their conversation that Mr. Rhamani has not told Anya the truth about why he doesn’t wants his daughter to go to his sister’s house on the day the girls had planned. Although they do not actually talk about what the truth is exactly. Haava is clearly not happy that he has chosen to make the girls into pawns in his game of jealousy. He makes it clear she won’t help him deceive the girls. She tells him she’s going to a spa on the 14th july.
Chapter 5
15th July 2004
Mr. Rhamani has now tells Laila about their postponement of their break at Haavas. Both girls meet their escorts and discover they are going to Wales to keep safe. They leave the Motorway stop. Not long into their journey the bodyguard thinks they’re being followed. They exit the motorway and end up parked alongside a village green. The men leave the car to argue. Laila fails to return from a toilet block. They realise she’s gone. The bodyguard thinks she’s been abducted, but they don’t tell her father. They look for her around the ‘green’ and in the village.
Chapter Six-A return to Omniscient third person P.O.V.
Haava arrives at the Spa she’s booked. She thinks about the conversation she had with her brother at his house. She has brought her diaries with her. They were written in retrospect at the advice of her therapist about her ordeal as a hostage in The Iranian Embassy Siege in London in 1980. The diaries tell about the day of the siege-and when one of the hostage-takers pushed a note into her hand. The note that caused her to go and find his wife and child.
That child is now her niece Laila – and her biological father will be released from a 24 year jail sentence on 17th July 2004. This is the secret her brother wants her to keep. This is what he deems a threat – not a Security Scare at the Embassy.

Thanks for looking at this. I will need to finish the novel as you suggested. Just to say at the point I mention the brothers secret in the synopsis, the reader doesn't know it yet. It will take several diary entries and chapters before this is revealed - in fact very near the end. Although clues are given throughout.
Thanks so much. Back to writing the novel and not sweating about the synopsis yet me thinks.
