My Immortal

What is it that forbids me to sleep when
every resource has left this body?
Undisturbed, the force within me is powerless
to awaken the dying embers of the love we made
when everything around us was new.

When you hear my spirit cry for the return
of the presence that haunts me still,
do you imagine our love was just a ghost,
an apparition that should never be -
or do you wait for an absolution?

I think when we connect with someone on a spiritual level, not just a purely physical level, and that ends, the spiritual connection can live on like a ghost. The ghost is either laid to rest, or awaits its ressurection.
