What then, to mortals reveal,
the purpose of their earthly life?
Watched from alabaster halls,
their hope, their haste, their strife.
Shall they know what lies ahead
beyond their final day of life?

Revealed in conversation,
they have not understanding
nor ability to comprehend
knowledge of their demanding.
In ignorance shall they remain,
supplications notwithstanding.

Oh reads very nicely I love the idea of this that it has been ordained we do not see ahead because we don't have the ability to understand that realm. You know Bewildering Stories might like this. However if I were you, since the language is quite formal, I would stick to formal use of punctuation and put the capitals back.

I had a thought for the title - how about Dictat?

Thanks Oonah... I added the capitals back. Did you mean Dictate? I kind of like the idea, but went with the Latin to see how it feels...

I think if you wanted to send it to Bewildering Stories, you'd be better with your original title because Don Webb - the editior is not fond of one word titles - just remembered that...

Thanks Findy...

I tried to get into the one word title....was not working for me so it is back to the original.

Hi Mike

An interesting presentation of why we do not know what happens in the after life. All the required words smoothly slotted in.

Regards
Derek

I enjoyed this, too, Mike. Well done! Wry.
I prefer the original title.
