should I dress in black today, or purple?
sometimes I long for a splash of colour
wear my sunshine yellow socks
to ease my sombre habitation behind
carefully pulled blinds and silently closed doors
even the lights must be dimmed
so far that my eyes squint and struggle to focus
on the matter we avoid for so long but in the end
we will all succumb
I am not the bringer of death
yet I am faced with my ghostly associations
blamed for my part in it and never
thanked for the care that I take
often I want to smile, share a joke
with your dearly departed
they are the closest thing to my understanding
of this world and the irony of it
where life meets death to make it
look more like life again and death
is mourned and hidden in the ground
below a life that is more like death
until death is all there is in my life
my life my life my life
until i forget
my life
sometimes I long for a splash of colour
wear my sunshine yellow socks
to ease my sombre habitation behind
carefully pulled blinds and silently closed doors
even the lights must be dimmed
so far that my eyes squint and struggle to focus
on the matter we avoid for so long but in the end
we will all succumb
I am not the bringer of death

my life my life my life
until i forget
my life
