One In Two

by Flyswat

Posted: 26 October 2009
Word Count: 89
Summary: Hi all. I am sorry this is late. I tried all week to get this out of my head and onto the computer but it just didn't happen. Here it is to read anyway. It's a tad rough... but then I've only had a chance to write it out once and not tidy it.

ONE IN TWO

Engine runs
Eyes well up
Reluctant waves goodbye

There He would go
Again
Every other Sunday
Always
Just after 8pm

At the window
Net curtains hiding
What I did not understand

She wore no sympathy
Banished me to my room

Unlike my Nanna

I swore to
Never to do the same
She’d finger-comb my hair
Serve hot chocolate with custard creams
And dilute my pain

The engine runs
It’s Sunday evening
Again
A little after 8pm

I am He
And my children -
They are me!
