The Inexorable Passage

Frozen, unblinking, faces
Peering out
From the stillness
Bleached into
Black and white.
Real people, fossilised
By the leering lens.
Real passions petrified
Vibrant, textured lives
Captured,
Nailed up
Adorning
The living’s wall.

But, they are gone,
Their vaporous trail
Leaving only
A vague ethereal fragrance.

And, soon,
Under the very same moon,
I too,
Will exist only
As a visual representation
Imprinted upon
A dead piece of tree.

Perhaps. But with memory of shared experiences, one can remember sounds, times, laughter - secrets shared, fantasies explored.....imprints are a prompt to what lies within, to the memory that refuses to die - a will of its own.

Another good poem. Write on.

Yes, what you say is true. I guess I was reflecting upon the transience of individual lives against the perpetuity of life.
