It is a such a vivid memory for me that it's obvious, but the clue is in the title..... and think 'old money', but that might not mean anything to you, I don't know!! I'll see if anyone else gets it!

I got it Joanie! 12 and 11 was a lot of money to lay out... Only 7 and a peeny change! I think when I started wearing stockings one had little choice - panty hose were expensive too and didn't last long. And while we're on nostalgia, did you wear the ones with seams?

(And do you remember the old Dr White's towels with the real cotton wool inside - great bulky things? I remember asking my mother once what they used when she was a girl and wishing I hadn't...)

Findy, don't worry - you had to around before 1960 to know what this is about and you had to be familiar with the old currency of pounds shillings and pence where 12 pence made a shilling and 20 shillings a pound and Maths was all about how many miles in a furlong and how many lbs in a stone and nothing came in tens.

Thanks, Oonah; I had faith in you! I bought my first pair of tights years ago. I remember vividly that they were 12/11 - twelve shillings and eleven pence. (When there were 12 pence to a shilling). That was a huge amount of money!

Well, you sure had me baffled. It never occurred to me to think of money! And I never did understand those shillings...
Had to laugh when I read that we're talking about stockings here!!
