Summary: For Robin's flash: Cezanne's painting 'Chateau Noir.'

He knows death approaches as sunlight filters weak rays through a canopy of dark pine. He can hear cicadas sing their song of Provence, and can smell organic air breathe against Bibeus rock that echoes softly like a Devil’s whisper.

But he sits, mesmerised by its abandoned beauty as his hand creates a palette of thick green, blue and ochre while, inside those derelict walls, he imagines its past owner, floating like a dim orb, admiring a legacy of black, unique folly.

But no one dares to step inside. No dares to enter Satan’s chateau. Did Cezanne take those steps, you ask, my friend?

Take another look. See, your answer lies within the painting.

I love the descripitons in this, Jennifer, and I wish I could see the painting. It sounds most intriguing...

Just as a clarification for all involved, though: The prompt was "artist" and not necessarily Cezanne.

Thanks for posting!

This is quite a departure from what I see as your usual style, but you have pulled it off - well done!

And is the answer there? I'm intrigued!

Thanks Rosie.

There are many of Cezanne's paintings there.

Thanks Nick.

I do have a gentler side. It started off as a poem but not being a good poet, I gave up.

Hi Jennifer

There is poetry in well written prose.

I enjoyed this, minimalist impressionism.
