'Why don't you smile?'
they say,
as I walk down the street,
minding my way.
They don't know me,
I don't know them.

My girls head,
done in with a brick
Cancer eating my bowel.
A worm growing in my liver,
making it burst
All could be true,
why don't they think the worst?

As it happens
They're not the case.
I'm just bored,
no thrill of the chase.
So why should I smile
as I walk down the street.
I'm fine as I am,
until I hear it
'Cheer up mate, might never happen'
The git

Sparrow, fantastic response to one of the most irritating things a stranger can say to you. And I've always wanted to write something in rebuttal- this is gritty, savage, funny. And great last line.

Hi Anna, thanks for your kind words.
It's good to know i'm not the only one that gets random people saying 'cheer up mate'.

Turn that frown upside-down!

When life hands you lemons, well darn it you just have to make lemonade!

Life is like a box of chocolates...

... and so forth.
