I was attached to you with strings
Tight Tom

And tied to you with tears
Dear Weeping Will

And bound to you with passion
Judder U Jay Johnny

And coupled to you with true poetic love
My Annotating Andy

And connected to you by soul
Oh Reverend Russell

And attracted to your clever mind
Supra Dupra Stefano

And briefly joined your little harem
Shekal Shekur Gourabi

And locked to you with handcuffs
Masochistic Matthew

And trapped by you to marry
Perfect Peter

And divorced from you next day
Rough Riding Ross

And remarried to your best friend
More Disappointing Dave

Only to find that he was very, very gay
Hip Hip, Hip Hip Hooray!

There follows ....

A Very Pregnant Pause
Before I blow out the candles!

Hi Esther. Definitely playful! I love the ending! Great alliteration, too. Confess ..... at least a couple of these must be real, surely!

Hi Joanie

Thanks for your comments - yes it was certainly a playful piece and I enjoyed writing it. I think I had a very good time coming up with the names. And you're right, a couple are real but I'll leave it up to you to guess which ones......

you know... there is something very masculine about this.
This list making of lovers, I always thought it was a male thing. Maybe in males its more
of an ego thing, propping up failing self confidence. When you describe the piece as playful, I somehow get the feeling that like most play, there is often a more hidden subconscious meaning.
I'm curious what it signifies to you?

Hi Andy

There is nothing masculine about this poem. This list has nothing to do with ego although as a man, I guess you might think so. This is word play on variety of names. The significance to me is really nothing more than a nursery rhyme. I'm glad you liked it. EF x
