In the still moment before you were born
our midwives told me in quiet voices
of babies born with their sacs intact.

To keep them safe from the sea, they said,
sailors paid good money for
the charm of a bubble that would not burst.

As they spoke, the final wave struck
and launched you
breaking your membrane on the air.

Gorgeous, Nina! I love the quietness of the opening and the fantastic sea references: final wave, launched you'.

This is excellent and such an unexpected response to the prompt word!

I really enjoyed the read. Is it based on a true experience?

This is such a different take on the prompt word. Lovely imagery, tells a story and has a safe and happy ending. I too picked out the
final wave, launched you
as being one of my favourite lines.

Thanks for joining in.
