The joy of self-satisfaction

Summary: It's a while since I posted one of my 'Just a Minutes' which I do for local radio from time to time. It's very different from my usual WW stuff, but it's 'fit for purpose'! If you fancy hearing it read aloud, it's available on 'Listen again' on manxradio.com after next Thursday!

Who would have thought that she’d have the audacity!
Surely her brain doesn’t have the capacity!
And have you seen her? .. consumed by voracity!
I can’t stand the woman myself.

I just can’t believe the deficient mentality;
everyone knows she’s an odd personality.
She needs to be getting a get a grip on reality!
Forgive her?! You’re joking, not me.

Well I’m very thankful I’m nothing like she can be.
Say what you like, we’ll agree that we disagree.
She makes me feel sick when she tries to be nice to me.
She can try all she likes – I don’t care!

You see, I understand what it means to be caring,
to be filled with compassion, loving and sharing.
Whereas she has no concept – she’s so overbearing!
Thank heaven I’m better than her!

Hi Joanie,
This is brilliant! I love it. As you would expect, I can far more easily appreciate a bit of 'real rhyme' like this. Why don't you post more of these 'Just A Minute's? This one reminded me very much of Eleanor Brown's "Bitcherel" whose last stanza reads:
"It's not that I think she is vapid and silly;
It's not that her voice makes me wince;
But - chilli con carne without any chilli
is only a plate full of mince"
ooh...miaiow!!

Thanks, Mike. I thought you'd enjoy it, and I'm delighted you did! There are a couple more from way back. Search on my profile - they are called 'I wish I were more like her' and 'How are you, dear?'. Hope you enjoy them! I will post more of these soon, I think.

Joan

Sorry - I meant to say that I love the quote from Eleanor Brown.

Nice one, Joanie. Shows what fun rhyming can be. We seem to be having a mini-festival of rhyme just now - everyone makes it look so easy. Your rhymes are exuberant. I'll read the others too.

James.

Meant to add - I love the culminating irony: 'She's so overbearing'!

Also meant to add - didn't know you were a radio star!

Thanks, James! I have to confess that I do enjoy making rhymes. However, these have to be read aloud; I can understand that the reader might find it difficult to 'get it right'! Thanks for reading - much appreciated!
