The white coats surrounded her. She could hear what they were saying but was distracted. Looking at his downy soft hair she just wanted to say "but look. Can't you see? He is perfect"

That was sad, Rebecca. A telling story written with the minimum of words.

Thanks Jennifer. Glad it's not just me up at the crack of dawn!
I was intending to write something else involving 'diagnosis murder' the tv programme but this came to me at about 5.30 this morning and I liked it more.

Says everything it needs to say with such economy. Funny how stories come to you when you're lying there awake.
So poignant.

This implies so much; a mother's pain, the matter-of-factness of the professionals, the innocence of the baby.
Lovely,
Rosie

Just a thought - do you mean distracted, or not with them...detached, yes detached?

Aw, shucks. Thanks for the comments, glad it has been roundly enjoyed.
I did mean distracted, as in distracted from what the doctors were saying by her baby. Does that make sense.

I thought that was superb. It says so much between the lines (to me). Excellent.
