Travels with a Tick-tock (Steampunk radio play)

by themymble

Posted: 25 January 2008
Word Count:
Summary: A young couple confronting those standing in the way of their marriage hitch a lift through the aether on a clockwork ship. But an accident sets criminals and a vengeful family on their trail. The full play is a pilot for a series of six episodes. The second file is an outline the six episodes -- the last five have not been written: I am only going to write them if I could interest someone in the pilot.

Hello Clare,

Thanks for the read. I think there's lots of good things going on here, it's very vivid and the characters are nicely drawn. For radio, I think you definitely need to set the scene a bit more, especially as it's not naturalistic. You could add more sound effects and bump up the beginning, perhaps with a narrator of some sort to set the scene and establish this other world we're going to. As it reads, it's too short for a first episode which , unless you're going for 15mins, which is an idea but rare, it has to be 26mins. Which is roughly 24 - 26 pages. This is a half hour episode giving time for credits both top and tail. I suggest you definitely include a synopsis of the whole series and detailed shorter synopses of each episode including the pilot. Also a character breakdown which really helps. In radio, hearing is believing, and at this stage we have to know what we're going to be listening to for it all to come alive. I liked the ending very much as it lent a lot of comic tension. Please re post with a synopsis that would be great. I do hope I've been helpful, let me know if you need anything else.

Best

Julie
