Empty Heads of the Masses

Blessed are those who do not think
The empty heads of the masses
Whose bodies instinctively flock to department stores
When the word SALE appears in all its red and white glory
Not a “Do I really need this?” in sight

And this it now, this is what “civilised” society breeds
Credit card debts and overdrafts
Ever ready to service our ever growing needs
And the pursuit of self actualisation was abandoned long ago
If you can’t buy it on the high street we just don’t want to know

So late at night as I make my way home
I fear the kids are being read commercials instead of bedtime stories
And they are reading them alone
Because who needs parents when you have a television
Who needs trees when you have an X-Box

I love the urgency in this. The bit that really hits home is:

"So late at night as I make my way home
I fear the kids are being read commercials instead of bedtime stories
And they are reading them alone"

I could do with it being longer though, this dystopian way of the credit crunch!

Katie.
