The Tyrant Dictator, an African Prespective- ( working title)
Posted: 05 April 2003 Word Count: 420 Summary: He will use every means at his disposal to get his fellow country men and women to believe in him. He will expose to them their true worth. Nothing. The tyrant dictator is a lean, mean machine. He will come into power promising the world to the country. He would have come to ‘rid them of what ails them’. He would have come to power with the support of other powers, within and outside the country, individuals and governments alike. He will be there to ‘safeguard their interests’ (I do not mean to draw attention to Donald Rumpsfeld here, but hey!). He will use every means at his disposal to get his fellow country men and women to believe in him. He shall limit the information available to the masses. All television and Radio stations will be government controlled in one way or the other. All else failing, he will break their backs and crush their souls. He will expose to them their true worth. Nothing. He will let Power stations become run-down and inoperable. He will sabotage water supplies. Without electricity a country can simply not function. Without clean water, people can’t function. He will arrest activitists, sometimes hanging them after a kangaroo court has passed judgment, all in the name of protecting certain interests, be it for the government or for an oil company. All this multiplied over a decade or more leaves wounds that even time has a hard time dealing with. How do you get a man to up-rise against his tyrant when he has neither the energy nor will. When they are so poor their breast milk runs dry.
His total and utter disregard for the people of the country will lead to a break-down of a functional society. Crime will run rife, the under funded corrupt law enforcement agencies powerless to stop them. Families will be robbed, men killed, women raped, children kidnapped, houses burnt (sometimes by the sudden high voltage surges from power stations). Worst off will be the country, its resources and wealth wasted and embezzled so that their debts with the IMF and world bank run all the way up the beanstalk. It is then that the debt collection agencies decide to act. Using all the tools at their disposal, sometimes even war, they will strive to get their money back, no matter how long it takes. After the tyrant has been deposed, the country shall go into administration, and then a suitable government shall come into place, albeit with the help of an invisible guiding hand. Once again, this new government will seek to serve its people and the interests of the powerful. On and on this record has played.

A bleak picture, graphically described and, of course, of considerable current relevance. I get the impression that the writer might have ideas about how to stop the destructive 'record' being played. It would be very interesting to read them!
