Rest In Peace

The withered stalks of a long-dead spray
Choked by the rampant growth of summer hay
Drooping in a cracked dry jar that once held jam
Are all that remains to remind you where I am

Below, the audacious worms in sensuous play
Caress the nether regions from which you shied away
And, at my head, your inscribed loss
Is softened now by gentle, creeping moss

While, up above and smiling, sit I
Transformed to Love, but wondering why
The council’s mowing regime’s so lax …..
Wasn’t that covered by my Council Tax?

Just spotted this wry piece of black humour. It cleverly sucked me right in, but by the second verse I should have known what was coming!

"Transformed to Love, but wondering why", has something rather special about it; almost transcends the humour. But we all get the last laugh.

Only browsing but I really liked this.

This is salacious and sad all at once and so, very funny.

Audacious and witty, mixing pathos and social satire.......great fun, but also an immensely skillfully constructed poem which both surprises and delights.

Best,

T
