once there was a caterpillar
all forlorn upon a leaf
two others, both familiar
brothers?

time is such a thief
so brief

who bothers?

he feels an odd sensation
a tingling inside
a strange negotiation
from one who cannot hide
the emotion deep inside

emerge or emergency?
he does not know why
his body is changing
he thinks he's bound to fly
part of him unfurling
he does not understand
he feels himself uncurling
as i take him gently
in my hand

he stretches his wings
we know what this is ....
