Ok, so what it’s not about
Is standing on your head
To defy gravity
Or plucking out the grey hairs
Cos you’ll end up bald.
And you can dream
All you like
About that elusive
Anti-ageing cream.

It is also not about
Adopting a persona of
A wife
A mother.

Because, first and foremost
You are a woman.
A fabulous feminine creation.

And with that territory
Comes the gift of giving,
The loveliness of a drifting lily
The reservoir of limitless compassion,
The softness of sleeping upon a nomadic cloud,
The grace of soft tread,
The enticing, caressing touch,
The passion of a lioness…

Behind every great man…

Every woman is beautiful…
As my old Pa says
“The most beautiful thing
About a woman
Is her smile”.

Never forget,
It only gets better.

Your poem reminded me of this by Pablo Neruda:

'There are taller ones than you, taller
There are purer ones than you, purer
There are lovelier than you, lovelier.

But you are the queen'

Whenever I look back, I always remember the smile of a lady, far more than her scent. I remember whether she smiles with just her mouth or with her eyes too.

Good poem.

You also reminded me of the female characters in the films of Almodovar

Aaah, Neruda, we are not worthy... 'The Queen' is indeed a beautiful poem.

I like and endorse your comments about a woman's smile... the eyes and the mouth.

Thanks Fearless

Thanks Pene, you are right... we all need reminding. It just popped into my head a quote from Niko Kazantsakis' 'Zorba The Greek' something along the lines of a woman gets more pleasure from giving, than taking.
