Slowly I try to take in the reasons
but
oddly I can’t remember exactly
why
finally I chose to be a teacher.

I suppose becoming a teacher is a bit like becoming a nurse, a doctor or a dancer - it is a kind of calling. My youngest step-daughter is a primary school teacher and none of us were surprised because she was always very good with children, even when she was a child herself. Rather like my grandson Andrew who is fantastic with babies and toddlers even though he's only 11.
Whatever our vocation, we must all wonder why. I don't think we'd be human othewise. Take me - I always knew I would be a writer, but even after all these years, I still sometimes question it.
I like the pattern of your poem, it is easy on the eye, and I can really identify with its sentiments. Thank you for sharing.
Beanie.

Thanks, Beanie! Yes, definitely a 'calling', hence the title. Glad you liked the form.

Very strong and poignant. I'm almost tempted to cut the "finally" to give it more end punch, but I can see why you want the pattern to remain the same. I found this very thought-provoking indeed - great stuff!
