A Perfect Fit

Jigsaws are the pivot of our lives;
separate pieces fall into the space prepared
with lugs or dents to make the perfect fit.
The corners are in place; I stand my ground
and form my days to melt into the mould
until it's packed away into the box.

Hi Joanie
as ever this is a really compact poem with lots of images woven in and lots to like about it -
I particularly liked -
The corners are in place;
I stand my ground |

Very enjoyable thanks

I get this one all right! Problem is, some of the pieces are missing in mine now.
The process of completing a jigsaw is a pretty good analogy for way we might force (or even mould)ourselves to fit into the holes we find, even if the pieces should be somewhere else.
I did think 'template' rather than 'pivot', though I can understand how 'trying to fit in' can become an obsession. So in that sense, yes, its as if our lives pivot around making a picture that's already made for us, instead of just getting our own paints and experimenting on life's canvas......

Thanks Tina and Brian! Yes, Brian, I agree that 'template' could be better. I'll leave it for the moment and change it later.

I like the idea of a jigsaw to communicate person shaped holes that need to be filled ..... I often see this as a major problem in staff teams, where established members unconsciously try to push a new member into behaving in certain ways! However, your poem has a much happier fell to it, with the sense of the places beign lovingly prepared. Amazing what can be read into a poem about jigsaws!
