THE GIRL WHO BELIEVED IN FAIRIES (PIL0T EPISODE)
WRITTEN BY LINDA G CORBY

DAY; MID AFTERNOON; HALLWAY OF SUSAN'S HOME;
Blonde woman in mid thirties is in the hallway with a telephone in her hand. Susan a young blonde girl obviously her daughter is at her side. She puts the telephone down on its table and looks at the young girl next to her.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Susan dear, run and tell daddy he is wanted on the telephone.
Susan skips gaily down the hallway towards the out side door.
SUSAN
OK mummy, will do.
The woman watches her going out with a smile on her face, Fade out:

EXT: DAY; MID AFTERNOON; OUTSIDE OF SUSAN'S HOME;
Susan is seen coming skipping outside the front door, the camera follows her around the side of the house past a greenhouse, at the back of the greenhouse there is an older man around the fifties, looking and poking at plant pots and puffing on a pipe. Susan goes up to the man and tugs on his arm.
SUSAN
Daddy, Daddy, one of your botanist friends is on the phone for you.
The man looks down at her, smiling picks her up and swings her round in the air playfully. Susan is giggling happily.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Putting her gently back down)
Righty Oh my love, I'll sort that out and I'll be back to show you some of my plants shortly.
Susan's view of the man wondering off puffing on his pipe in the direction of the house as he disappears from view round to the front of it. The Camera goes back to Susan who is looking in the flowerbeds alongside the greenhouse. It follows her as she goes round to the back garden, and she bends down to look at a plant, which has attracted her attention. Camera shot of the plant. The leaves are large with orange spots all over them.
SUSAN
You're pretty.
Susan moves closer to the plant and starts gently examining it. Camera shot of the tiny silver bells on the plant as Susan touches them.
SOUND EFFECT
Strange tinkling sound from the bells.
SPIKE (ELF)
(Voice over cross sounding little voice)
What do you want?
Susan moves slightly back from the plant with a puzzled expression on her face.
SPIKE (ELF)
(A bit gruffly)
I said what do you want?
Susan moves back a little further from the plant and looks a bit frightened Camera shot of little elf man poking his head around one of the orange spotted leaves.
SPIKE
Well what do you want?
Spike comes out from behind the orange spotted leave; he is dressed from head to toe in a green suit with orange spotted leaves, exactly like the leaves of the strange plant.
SUSAN
(Surprised and a bit startled)
Oh! Wh...Who are you?
SPIKE
(Crossly)
I'm an elf, who'd you think I am?
SUSAN
(Still surprised)
Oh! I'm a little girl, my name is Susan.
SPIKE
(Less grumpy)
I'm pleased to meet you.
Spike holds out a hand as small and delicate as a cake crumb.
SPIKE
I'm Spike.
Susan shakes his hand very gently between her thumb and forefinger.
SPIKE
Sit down then.
Susan goes to sit down.
SPIKE
Be careful of the plants!
Susan sat on the lawn and avoided any plants. Spike came and sat alongside her.
SPIKE
(Now quite friendly)
You woke me up you know.
SUSAN
I'm sorry, I didn't know you where there.
SPIKE
Yes well you rang my bells and Elf's normally do sleep in the daytime!
SUSAN
I wouldn't have done it if I'd known.
SPIKE
Don't worry about it I'm awake now.
Camera shot of the sky showing that evening is drawing nearer, then back to Susan and Spike.
SUSAN
I live in the house, I didn't know anyone lived in the plants in our garden.
SPIKE
Lot's of us Elf's do Fairies too. We have parties and all sorts in this garden at night. Many from fairy land come. You have such wonderful plants for us to live in here!
SUSAN
Really how wonderful, my daddy is a botanist, that's why!
SPIKE
Yes it is great fun; we use the summerhouse to put out lots of fun things to eat and everything.
SUSAN
I'd love to join you!
SPIKE
Maybe one day.
SUSAN
Oh yes yes please, I can't wait.
Camera shot of them showing it is becoming dusk.
SPIKE
We'll see, I have to ask the others first!
SUSAN
(Excitedly)
Do you think they'll agree?
SPIKE
(Thoughtfully)
I'll try, but no promises now.
SUSAN
It would be great, really great, please, oh please let them say yes?
It is now becoming early evening.

SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Voice over only shouting from inside the house)
Susan, Susan, time to come in for you tea!
SUSAN
(Looking towards the house)
Coming mummy.
(Then looking to spike)
How will I know?
SPIKE
I'll meet you in the summerhouse tomorrow.
SUSAN
What time?
SPIKE
Oh, say three in the afternoon.
SUSAN
Great I'll see you then.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Voice over shouting)
Susan, come on your tea is getting cold.
SPIKE
You'd better go now, or you'll be in trouble.
SUSAN
(Begrudgingly)
All right, but I really don't want to!
SPIKE
You mustn't annoy your mum or she might not let you out to see me tomorrow, you don't want that do you?
Susan gets up off the grass and heads for the house, waving at Spike as she goes.
SUSAN
Bye Spike see you.
SPIKE
(Voice over as Susan goes in through a back door)
Bye Susan, I'll be in the summerhouse as agreed.
Camera shot of Susan looking back sadly just before she goes in, the door closes behind her. Fade Out:
INT; NIGHT; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan is in bed, her father is at the door, and her mother is sitting at her side.
SUSAN
(Excitedly)
But it is the truth, I did meet an Elf, his name is Spike, and they do have parties at night in our garden.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Puffing on his pipe)
Yes dear, of course.
Susan's mother gives a knowing glance at Susan's Father.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Time you went to sleep now; it's very late!
Susan's father walks across and kisses her goodnight.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Night night my love, now you must go to sleep.
SUSAN
OK Daddy, thanks for having all the wonderful plants, Spike says that's what they all like!
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Shaking his head as he leaves the room)
Fine dear if you say so.
Susan's father leaves the room shaking his head and laughing to himself as he does so.
SUSAN
Daddy doesn't believe me!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
He does my love, but don't forget we're adults and as Spike told you, adults cannot see them.
SUSAN
Oh, but you believe me mummy don't you?
Susan's mother smiles and picks up the partly drunk warm milk from the side table next to Susan's bed.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Yes my love, now drink up your milk please, daddies right it is time you went to sleep.
Susan talks the drink from her mother, drinks it and hands her the glass back.
SUSAN
I love you mummy.
Susan's mother tucks her in and kisses her goodnight.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
I love you too; my precious little girl, daddy and I both love you!
SUSAN
I just wish daddy would believe me too.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Smiling as she heads for the door)
Yes my love, but go to sleep now OK.
Susan's mother switches off the light at the door and blows her a kiss as she leaves. There is a glow still from Susan's night light in the bedroom.
SUSAN
Night mummy.
Camera shot of Susan curling up in bed and trying to go to sleep. Fade out:

INT: MID AFTERNOON: SUSAN'S PARENTS KITCHEN.
Susan's mother and Father at the Kitchen window, watching Susan in the back garden.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Strange isn't it!
SUSAN'S FATHER
Yes, she's been doing that for nearly the whole summer.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Yes, talking to her imaginary friendly Elf Spike.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Well all kids have imaginary friends, don't they?
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Um, but it's been every day, and look how upset she got when I was late back the other day with the shopping. Said she didn't want to go shopping with me in the afternoon again.
SUSAN'S FATHER
That was odd, she didn't even touch her sweets, just rushed outside to the garden as soon as you got back.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Do you think we have a problem?
SUSAN'S FATHER
No, it's just kids; they all go through this imaginary friend's thing.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
I hope you right!
SUSAN'S FATHER
Of course I am, anyway she isn't doing anything harmful is she.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
No, I just find it a bit over the top.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Don't worry she'll grow out of it, they all do.
Susan's mother looks at her father with a bit of a worried expression on her face.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Putting an arm round her mother)
Believe me, Susan will be fine love.
Susan's mother looks at her father, with an I'm not so sure expression but said nothing. Fade Out:
Camera shot showing night and day flowing with time lapses, with Susan and Spike sitting on the lawn each afternoon, obviously having fun in deep conversation, the occasional shot of Susan's parents checking on her through the kitchen window, with slightly worried puzzled expressions. The shots show the summer gradually passing and coming to an end and the nights drawing to a close into autumn, the flowers are starting to wither and the leaves are turning to autumn gold. Susan is starting to ware warmer clothes. Spike can be seen fading in appearance as the days pass, his voice also seems to be getting weaker. Susan appears to be growing by the day.

EXT; IN THE SUMMERHOUSE OF SUSAN'S GARDEN.
Susan and Spike are sitting talking on the porch of the summerhouse. Spike is now barely visible to Susan.
SUSAN
It must be the light I can hardly see you Spike.
SPIKE
(Flippantly)
I'm still here, must be the light as you say.
SUSAN
(Worried)
Your not going to leave me are you? I mean I'm not an adult, and mummy says adults cannot see you.
SPIKE
No adults cannot see me, but you're not an adult yet, though you are growing up fast!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Voice over)
Susan, tea's ready, come on in, it's getting cold out there!
SPIKE
(With a sad smile)
I'll see you tomorrow then.
SUSAN
Oh yes I'll be here! Bye then.
Susan gets up and heads back into the house, waving at Spike as she goes.
SPIKE
(Very sadly)
Bye Susan.
(To himself)
Don't know how much longer you'll be able to see me though, your getting too big my friend.
Camera shot of a tears falling from Spike's eyes as he speaks. Fade out;
EXT; IN THE SUMMERHOUSE OF SUSAN'S GARDEN.
Susan and Spike are on the porch of the summerhouse again. It is dusk and Spike is almost a shadow now, he fades in and out of Susan's vision, amongst the evening shadows of the summerhouse.
SUSAN
When can I join in the parties Spike? I would so much love to, and I do promise to be good!
SPIKE
(Weak sad voice)
Soon Susan Soon, I promise, it will be soon.
Camera shot of the garden, the leaves have all fallen from the tree's making a carpet on the ground, and there is a frost upon the ground.
SUSAN
(Upset)
But I can only just see you now.
SPIKE
(Sadly)
Well you getting too big, too big Susan, your growing faster than I thought you would.
SUSAN
Is that why I have a problem seeing you now?
SPIKE
Yes my friend it is, and I cannot stop you growing up, all children grow up, it's natural.
SUSAN
But I don't want to; I want to always be able to see you!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Voice over shouting from the house)
Susan, Susan, come on in it's getting too cold out there!
SUSAN
(Glancing at the house)
All right mummy I'll be in soon.

SPIKE
That's not possible Susan, there will come a time when you cannot see me anymore.
SUSAN
(Horrified)
No, No, Why not! There must be a way, there has to be a way!
SPIKE
(Really sad)
Youˇ¦re getting too big, you're just getting too big.
Susan has a horrified expression on her face and she starts to cry.
SUSAN
But I love you!
SPIKE
I no, but there's nothing I can do.
SUSAN
(Crying as she speaks)
There must be, there must be something you can do, your have magic powers, your fairy friends have powers too, couldn't help you find a way?
SPIKE
Don't cry Susan, please Don't cry! I'll ask them, I will, and I'll find a way to tell you what they say.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Commanding voice over from the house shouting)
Susan, come in immediately, your mothers has already called you, come inside now!
Susan looks towards the house, camera view of Susan's father coming towards the summerhouse.
SPIKE
You must go now!
Susan's father arrives at the porch.

SUSAN'S FATHER
(A bit annoyed)
Inside now Susan, I shouldn't have to fetch you.
Susan looks alongside her but can no longer see Spike.
SUSAN
Bye Spike.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Don't be silly there is no one there.
SUSAN
(A bit snappy)
You frightened him away, that's not nice daddy.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Annoyed)
Don't be stupid, now get inside dear, it's time you dropped this imaginary friend thing.
Susan looks up at her father a bit defiantly.
SUSAN
(Having a paddy)
Spike does exist; he's not imaginary!
SUSAN'S FATHER
Inside now!
Susan gets up and is frog marched into the house by her father. As they go inside they both look back.
SPIKE
(Weak voice over)
Bye Susan. He knows your telling the truth he can hear me now.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Looking puzzled and shaking his head having heard Spike.)
In.
SUSAN
(Staring at her father)
You heard Spike didn't you?
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Unruly)
Don't be daft.
SUSAN
I'm not daft!
Susan and her father are seen going into the house. Fade Out:
INT: NIGH TIME: SUSAN'S PARENTS KITCHEN.
Susan's parents doing the dishes.
SUSAN'S FATHER
(Puzzled expression)
It was odd, very odd, but I could have sworn I heard a voice say bye to Susan.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Now who's daft?
SUSAN'S FATHER
No, seriously, I did!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Well did you see anything?
SUSAN'S FATHER
No, and I must have imagined the voice, but it was odd!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Its pure imagination, I've though I heard things before, and it is just in our heads!
SUSAN'S FATHER
Probably, just felt a bit strange about it though.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Well it's nearly winter, so Susan won't be able to go out there so much, which should put an end to it.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Let's hope so, it isn't funny any longer, in fact it's a pain.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Couldn't agree more.
Camera pans them looking at each other then fades out:

EXT; DUSK; IN THE SUMMERHOUSE OF SUSAN'S GARDEN.
Susan is in the summerhouse searching for Spike.
SUSAN
Spike, Spike, where are you?
Susan continues looking for Spike.
SPIKE
(Voice over very weakly)
I'm here Susan I'm here!
SUSAN
(Still searching)
Spike where are you, I think I can hear you but I cannot see you anywhere!
SPIKE
(Voice over very distant and weak)
I'm still here Susan, I am.
SUSAN
(Still searching)
Where are you?
Susan continues searching, but cannot find Spike. Camera shows the time lapse as Susan searches and it gets darker by the second.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Susan, tea's ready, come on in.
SUSAN
(Crying)
Co.. Coming mummy.
Susan goes into the house looking dejected and miserably. Fade Out:
INT: NIGH TIME: SUSAN'S PARENTS KITCHEN.
Susan coming into the kitchen is looking really upset and crying.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
What's wrong love.
Susan's mother goes over and puts an arm around her as she sits down at the kitchen table.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
What on earth is it love, have you hurt yourself.
SUSAN
No mummy, Spikes gone, I cannot find him anywhere.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Oh, don't worry love, I'm sure he'll be back next summer.
SUSAN
No mummy, I've gotten too big.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
It's all right love; you'll make other friends.
Camera pans back from them and fades out:
EXT; DUSK; IN THE SUMMERHOUSE OF SUSAN'S GARDEN.
Susan is searching for Spike again.
SUSAN
Spike, Spike, please answer me Spike.
Susan sits crying on the porch of the summerhouse but Spike does not arrive. Her tears fall down her cheeks and onto the wooden floor.
SPIKE
(Weak soft voice over)
I'm here Susan, I am, please Oh please don't cry!
SUSAN
(Looking round as if she thinks she can hear him)
Oh Spike, where are you, I think I can hear you, but I'm not sure!
Camera pans back as Susan gets up and start to wonder round the garden aimlessly, Fade Out:
INT: MID AFTERNOON: SUSAN'S PARENTS KITCHEN.
Susan is having a drink in the kitchen with her mother and father.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Well Susan, Spike did say you where getting too big.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Yes, obviously he has gone back to fairyland for the winter, now you wouldn't like him to catch a cold would you?
SUSAN
(Unhappy)
You don't understand, he promised, promised he's take me to fairyland.
SUSAN'S FATHER
Right dear, well maybe he'll do that next summer.
SUSAN
Can I go out and look for him just once more?
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Fine, but not too long Susan, it's not too warm now, put your coat on first.
SUSAN
Yes mummy.
Susan gets her coat puts it on and rushes outside.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Shaking her head)
I wish she'd get over this imaginary friend.
SUSAN'S FATHER
I think she'll get over it soon love, I mean now she can't see it any longer.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Goodness I hope so; I've had just about enough of it!
Camera pans back from them and fades out:

EXT; DUSK; IN THE SUMMERHOUSE OF SUSAN'S GARDEN.
Susan is searching for Spike.
SUSAN
(In desperation)
Spike, where are you, why don't you come, what did I do wrong? Spike please why are you hiding?
Susan sits on the porch and bursts into uncontrollable tears.
SPIKE
(Soft very weak voice over)
I'm here, go to my home, go to my home Susan!
Susan gets up and starts wondering round the garden.
SUSAN
(To herself)
I'm sure I heard him, but what does it mean, was it just in my mind?
Susan stops and bends down by the plant where she first met Spike. The silver bells had now died, and the leaves had started to turn brown at the edges.
SUSAN
(Sadly)
I'll never forget you Spike, I won't, and we had such fun together. I miss you please come back!
Susan crying softly gently lifts up the leaves of the plant and looks underneath them, as if expecting to find Spike there. She puts them back where she found them disappointedly.
SUSAN
Why can't I find you?
As Susan puts the last leaf down she suddenly spots something shiny leaning against the stem of the plant.
SUSAN
(Open eyed to herself)
What's this?
Camera shot of the beautiful silver ring which looks as if it where made from gossamers and dewdrops.
SUSAN
(To herself)
Wow, it beautiful, a beautiful ring!
Susan is about to put the ring on her finger.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Voice over shouting from the house)
Susan, Susan, time for bed love!
Susan jumps up, quickly puts the ring into her coat pocket. The Camera pans her running into the house. Fade Out:
INT; NIGHT; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan gets into bed; her mother kisses her goodnight and tucks her in. Then heads out of the room.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Night love.
SUSAN
Night mummy, love you!
Susan's mother gets to the door, switches off the light. Blows Susan a kiss from the door.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Smiling at her from the door)
That's my good girl, you go to sleep now.
Susan makes out to be going to sleep, her mother leaves, but as soon as she is gone Susan gets out of bed and heads out of the room. The camera follows her creeping out of the room and down the stairs to the hallway, where Susan goes to her coat hanging up at the bottom of the stairs. Susan gets the ring out of her coat pocket.
SUSAN
(Voice over in her head)
Yes!
Susan puts the ring onto her finger as she heads back up the stairs to her bedroom. She is smiling and holds out the hand with the ring on it.
SUSAN
(Quietly to herself)
Oh,
(Sighs)
It's so lovely; I'll ware it always.
Susan holds the hand with the ring on close to her chest, and goes into her bedroom. Fade out:

INT; NIGHT; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan is lying in bed looking at the ring.
SUSAN
(To herself contentedly)
Thank you Spike, thank You, I knew you wouldn't forget me, now I have something to always remember you by!
Susan smiles to herself and curls up in bed and goes to sleep happy. Fade Out:
INT; MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan is sound asleep with the night light on, but a full moon is giving extra light to the room. Suddenly the tinker of a bell can be heard. Susan awakes and sits up in bed rubbing her eyes, she suddenly shrinks to fairy size, alongside her is Spike with the bell in his hand ringing it.
SPIKE
Wake up! Wake up! Sleepy head.
Susan looks a little afraid, she puts out her hand to check if Spike is real or if she is having a dream, as she touches him she realizes that her hand is the same size as his.
SUSAN
I've shrunk! Spike, is that really you?
SPIKE
(Smiling broadly)
Ha, Ha! Welcome to Fairyland
Susan looks as though she is about to burst into tears.
SPIKE
(Leaping around)
Come on! Come on! They are all waiting for us!
Susan looks bewildered.
SUSAN
(Sniffing)
Who are?
Spike was dancing around enjoying himself on the pillow of the bed.
SPIKE
(Flinging his arms around with the bell ringing)
Everybody. The fairies, the other elves, everybody!
SUSAN
(Looking excited)
Really!
SPIKE
(Full of fun)
They're all waiting. We've got a party ready for you. Marvellous things to eat and drink, jellies and lemonade made from morning dew, cakes and biscuits made from honey, and the most gorgeous fruit-salad you've ever seem, made from all the soft flower seeds in the garden.
(Spike beckons her with his hands)
Come on Come on!
Spike then jumps off the bed and glides to the floor; Susan looks dubiously over the edge of the bed.
SUSAN
It seems an awful long way down!
Camera shot of Susan's view over the edge of the bed.
SPIKE
(Voice over)
Just close your eyes and jump, trust me you'll float down just like I did.
Susan closes her eyes and jumps and does float to the ground just like Spike did. As she opens her eyes she sees Spike dancing out of the room and follows him, camera pans them going dancing happily through the door then fades out:

EXT; NIGH TIME JUST BEFORE DAWN; IN SUSAN'S GARDEN.
The Fairyland party is in full swing, Susan is having a wonderful time. Fairies, elves, and all sorts of fairyland creatures are playing. Susan is standing next to a pretty fairy, whose lilac and silver wings shimmer in the moonlight.
SUSAN
(Eating)
This is wonderful, how do you get it to taste so good?
FAIRY
(With a beautiful smile)
Oh, that's a fairy secret, I just couldn't tell!
(Fairy goes coy and giggles)
It's specially made for nice little girls just like you!
SUSAN
(Smiling)
Do you often hold parties for children like me?
FAIRY
We used to, but a lot of children have stopped believing in us!
SUSAN
Why?
FAIRY
Oh, we had a big talk about that one, we think it is just a fashion thing, so many new toys out there to choose from that some have forgotten us.
SUSAN
How sad.
FAIRY
It's OK, some still believe in us, mainly the only children though, you see the only children don't have brothers and sisters who are too old to believe, and make fun of them for believing in us.
SUSAN
Oh I see.
An Elf behind them suddenly leaps frogs over a wrinkly old frog that has ambled onto the scene of their revels.
FAIRY
That's brave!
SUSAN
Yes, It's huge; he really had to jump high to get over it.
A load of the other Elves start jumping over the wrinkle old frog, others continue to leap frog over each other.
FAIRY
Let's play hide and seek!
SUSAN
Great, can I hide first?
FAIRY
If you like.
The camera surveys the scene of merriment. Some are playing leap frog, some playing hide-and-seek using the golden and russet autumn leaves, others playing ring o' ring o' roses falling on the thick carpet of crunchy leaves, shrieking with laughter, as they go round and round white toadstools. Susan joined in all the games and had never had so much fun. She laughed so much with them that she was out of breath.
SPIKE
You are enjoying yourself Susan?
SUSAN
(Breathless)
Oh yes, yes Spike, I've never had so much fun!
The camera shows that the moonlight if fading away and a new dawn is beginning, the sun can be seen slowly rising behind the trees. The fairies Elves and other creatures from fairyland are looking worn out and are dropping off to sleep, hiding themselves under leaves and the like. Susan looked around and went and sat by Spike for a rest on some dry leaves.
SUSAN
How do I get back to my bedroom Spike!
SPIKE
(Sleepily)
The same way we came out!
Susan looks at the house, which appears huge to her.
SUSAN
But I don't know if I can?
SPIKE
Of course you can, go in and go back to bed Susan, you must be tired?
SUSAN
(Panicking)
I'm not sure I can get back on my own?
Susan looks at Spike but he has nearly nodded off to sleep.
SPIKE
(Yawning)
I'm tired, go to sleep!
Susan tries to keep Spike from falling asleep, but cannot; he falls asleep and starts snoring.
SUSAN
(To herself)
Oh goodness, what am I going to do?
Susan shakes Spike but cannot wake him, she gets up and looked around, seeing they had all gone to sleep she tiptoed carefully between them, being very careful not to stand on any of them. The camera pans after her as she heads for the back door and climbs through the cat flap.
INT: DAWN: SUSAN'S PARENTS KITCHEN.
Susan is seen coming in through the cat flap, the cat is fast asleep on the cushion of a kitchen chair, it does not seem to see her go past. Susan keeps an eye on it as she goes through quietly.
SUSAN
(To herself)
The fairies where right the cat cannot see them, at least it didn't notice me thank goodness!
Camera shot of her going out of the kitchen as the sunlight comes in through the window and the cat stirs. Fade out:

INT; DAWN; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan is seen coming into the bedroom and climbing up the bed cover to get into bed. She reaches the top and slumps down with her head landing on the pillar.
SUSAN
(Tired but happy to herself)
What a night! But how will mummy see me in the morning when I've got so small?
As Susan is speaking to herself, she falls asleep like a light, as she is obviously shattered.
SUSAN
(As she falls asleep to herself)
Oh, this feels so cosy, so good, I...
Camera shot of Susan asleep in her bed, she is gradually becoming bigger as the sunlight filters into the room from the gap in the curtains. Fade Out:

INT; MORNING; IN SUSAN'S BEDROOM.
Susan's mother enters the bedroom; she opens the curtains fully and looks at her sleeping daughter.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Smiling at her lovingly)
Susan,
(A bit louder)
Susan, come on wake up dear.
Susan's mother gently shakes her in order to wake her up.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Come on love you've overslept, daddy is already downstairs!
Susan's mother shakes her a little harder to wake her up. Susan come to sits up in bed still very sleepy eyed, rubbing her eyes.
SUSAN
I'm tired mummy, I didn't get much sleep.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Susan you went to bed at the usual time, you've had plenty of sleep.
Susan sits up in bed a little straighter and becomes more awake.
SUSAN
No mummy, it was the party; I got hardly any sleep.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
Don't be silly Susan you've been dreaming.
SUSAN
I went to fairyland, or rather the Fairies and Elves came to our garden and held a party for me, Spike got them to do it.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
You have been dreaming dear, now come on its time to get up!
SUSAN
No mummy I haven't been dreaming, honestly.
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(A bit impatiently)
Susan, really, you get such funny ideas in your head.
SUSAN
Spike came for me mummy; we had a wonderful time, the best!
SUSAN'S MOTHER
(Impatiently)
