Across the damask at odds with the grass
I watched your face as you swallowed the last
of the strawberry tart
and downed yet another glass of champagne
No word of thanks
just took what you got
I picked at a daisy and scattered the petals
he loves me,no, he loves me not
I dutifully wore a dress of black lace
a chess board of food so perfectly placed
I watched as you ate all the things you had paid for
linguini and mushrooms and fruits of the sea
to finish the meal we ate cherry flan
and I wondered what you would require from me
as I counted five stones on the side of the plate
tinker tailor ... oh yes a rich man
I sat in the park with newspaper vinegar
you smiled at me as I offered a chip
hungry and honest just food for the day
and I welcomed the fact that you had no agenda
we sprinkled on salt and we ate with our hands
as I read down the list on the horoscope page
Cancer and Libra are destined today
