cider-apple scent, acrid, overpowering drifts in the hot, still air the long afternoon dozes.
we sip summer through straws and fist jam sandwiches of soft white bread we freeze time in cubes, clink it in glasses of weak orange squash let it melt on the tongue
the earth dries, bleaching colour from grass and hedges the factory drones beyond the orchard close at hand there are bees.

Very evocative. My only query - 'fist' sandwiches? It's so lovely that I hate to be picky.

Yes, extremely redolent and atmospheric, but I wondered about the fisting, too! If you mean stuffing into the mouth, quite another image is what comes to mind, I'm afraid! But, lovely piece (if you're Scots, that's a wee joke).
Best,
Mike

Strangly, I thought you meant 'first jam sandwishes' meaning the fist sndwishes made from the seasons jam...see how we all read different things into the image.
irrespective you have evoked an image of lazy summer days...
drinking it through straws. |

Thank you for the image.

Hi Souchong. This is lazily atmospheric; I can feel it. I particularly like the last references to the sounds - the comparison of the droning factory and the bees.
Lovely. joanie

Souchong - so evocative, for me particularly the weak orange squash - so true, and the clever placing of the factory and the bees. Those summers when we were kids..thanks.
