Why do we fear old age,
Time to reflect and live out our dreams.
Relax in the sweet smell of the successes of our past
Old age is opportunity
Old age is peace
Farewell to stress, no more rat race
Why do we fear old age,
Is it the wrinkles, the loss of abilities
Is it the fear of losing our minds?
No the fear is of death, like an old rhyme
Nothing to fear but time

I thought, as I read the first few lines, that this was to be a poem of reassurance and encouragement to those who dread old age - in some ways it is, but then there's the sting in the tail! I wonder, though, if the major fear is the fact of death itself or the process which, of course, can be painful, undignified, lonely...Food for thought.
