As I slept Calliope stole into my room,
She kissed me on my forehead,
Through dermis and bone her powers prevailed,
Grey matter shook; synapses snapped,
Neurons niggled each one their neighbour.
And when I awoke, I found I could write,
But not poetry.

Ixion64,

I just came across this randomly. Loved the first line

'As I slept Calliope stole into my room'

and I smiled at the end!

Wonderful poem, Ixiom.

I'm not familiar with the story of Calliope, so I suspect I'm missing some of the significance of this work. You've got some excellent lines. In particular I like the niggling neurons.

Welcome to WW. I hope you find many fine writing friends here.

Regards
Liesl

Interesting user name - not 'bound upon a wheel of fire', I hope! - and excellent poem. I get worried by classical allusions nowadays as few people will probably follow them, but yours is clear in context. reminded me of a Yeats anecdote: A friend approached him and asked how he was today; Yeats responded, 'Not very well. I can only write prose!'

Best,

Mike
