The Showcase of Zahra Brown

Welcome to the Showcase for myself, Zahra Brown.

I am unpublished and will be seeking an agent and publisher later this year(2008), but if a reputable agent/publisher wishes to express any interest, feel free to contact me with any inquiries. Writing Thriller/Horror novels for adults is my niche, but I also intend to complete separate projects in the future, such as a romance novel as well as a weight loss one. During my spare time I also write poetry for adults, which varies in topics, ranging from life to death, light to dark, the good and the bad and everything in between.

Biography

I am sure that I share this experience with many on the Writewords website, but I have been writing ever since I was young. However, back then the novels lasted for less than two sides of A4 paper, for example, a boy and girl return home but accidentally enter the wrong house. Doesn't sound that exciting, does it? It was to write.

For unknown reasons, my creative flow stopped for many years. I wrote nothing. No stories, no poems, no pictures, etc. Until one afternoon when I was twelve years old...

Our eccentric English teacher told us that we were all going to submit to a poetry competition for teenagers. After we had all finished protesting and groaning, we put pen to paper. I could think of nothing whatsoever. Luckily, the bell rang and it was time to go home. For days, I could think of nothing, but then it came to me. I wrote my poem 'Silent Screams'. The week after the teach submitted them all and I totally forgot about it.

Weeks or months later, I received a letter asking for my permission to print my poem. Out of 41, 000, myself and hundreds of others had been chosen to be in the Zodiac anthology. I was astounded. I had not seriously believed that I would be good enough. Quickly, we sent off the reply and a few weeks later I held my first published work in my hands.

Once again, there was a dry spell until one day I was sitting on the computer typing away when I felt inspired. I typed up the poem and another two came from nowhere. I saved the file and returned to it two years later. Since then, I have been writing poetry regularly ever since. I felt uncomfortable writing novels, never finishing them...

When I was nineteen, an idea for a novel came to me. Unlike when I was younger and would jump head first into writing, this time was different. I made notes and planned the story entirely. I outlined their names, appearances and key lines of dialogue. This time I knew it would be different.

Soon after I found this website and every thing began to come together. I had been naive and believed that the road to being published would be easy, but now I know otherwise. The road will be hard, but I will drive down it anyway and see where it takes me.

Thank you for reading and enjoy this Showcase.
