This is the story behind a wartime photo, the image of a little girl staring out of a train.
The photo haunted Dutch journalist Aad Wagenaar for over fifty years.
In 1992, he began his long, difficult search to discover the identity of the child. It had always been assumed that the girl was Jewish, and her picture had become a symbol of Dutch Jewish suffering.
But Aad Wagenaar made an astonishing discovery. The child was not Jewish but a Sinti Gypsy girl. This fascinating story details his obsessive and detailed search and goes into the history of the Sinti Gypsies during the Second World War.
