Cold Beauty
The wind is biting; the ground is frozen.
Outside all is still, a cold beauty reigns.
Here, the fire soothes my soul's disquiet.
The window offers a mournful vantage
And separates life from death, me from you,
A barrier between heaven and earth.
Time can never heal cruel fate's burden,
Its passage only deepens and echoes:
Memories of gentle summers return,
A stolen kiss here, a loving look there.
You were my life, my source, my very breath,
Earthly perfection, but claimed by the dust.
The wind is biting; the ground is frozen.
Outside all is still, a cold beauty reigns.
Here, the fire soothes my soul's disquiet.
The window offers a mournful vantage
And separates life from death, me from you,
A barrier between heaven and earth.
