George fainted in Assembly
often.
He was allowed (in the days when
nothing was ever allowed)
to sit quietly at the side,
pale.
The caretaker brought
a bucket of sawdust
to soak up his vomit
regularly.
This was accepted,
understood, never questioned
by the innocence of
Infant School.
Those unconsidered questions
lurked silent inside me
for years.
Now there are
no answers.
