Loss

By what she has come to think of
as her ivory tower,
she sits alone,
bursting, bruised and quite undone.
Strangers offer her society and warmth
whilst friends have lowered her to below the salt.
The man whom once she gave her soul to hold
impatient now, unyielding, scolds -
the tincture of their trust
evaporates slowly in the searing sun.
In those dark recesses where no reason lurks
she longs to beg, pierce and bludgeon
this monumental dispassion.
Instead, defiant to the last,
she resets her aching heart's alarm
and turns fretful feet to oblivion in dance.
