Tomorrow

Tomorrow, the sea might swell tranquil or rudely crash,
the sky might decide cobalt or some dreary shade of grey,
the earth could shoot veridian or soak up bled red.

Tomorrow, Aids might be cured or replaced,
politicians may speak out of their mouths, instead of their arses,
and zealots may realise the fundamental commonalities
rather than the inconsequential differences.

Tomorrow, the price for adulthood might not be innocence,
‘us and them’ might substituted for ‘we’,
terrorism may be consigned to the history books,
warspeak made obsolete and peacemakers redundant.

Tomorrow, mankind might change, for better, or for worse.
God, Allah, Buddha, or Zeus may descend
to make us pay or give us another shot.

But that’s tomorrow.
And today, is today.
