tiptoeing gently down the stairs
I didnt want to wake his dream
I poured the coffee in a mug and sat by the window and lost myself
I was going to hatch a plan, a scheme
for things we had briefly wine tasted last night of how our life was going to be
but as I stared through the pane of glass and the green grey hills beyond
something caused discomfort and I knew that the snoring frame that lay still in my bed wanted nothing that would last
he needed a place ..a cosy nest.. a willing arm .. a shapely leg
and a pillow... hers or mine ... it didnt matter to lay his drunken head
so I crashed the mug down and I put on the shower
soaping away the encrustation of our well shelved plans
I was squeaky clean and sang songs that we had listened to for hour upon hour
and when he eventually emerged expecting yet another
I simply said.. been a nice weekend .. but I am off to New York now to see my brother
