Freedom

Freedom of speech is today on the edge
of a precipice of darkness.
Held there by a few brave hearts
and far fewer brave words.
Painters, men, destroyed where it once had been books.
Right wing think tanks that don’t think,
Religious fanatics without care,
care of anything but a strangely viewed
God. Some God.
A voice of dissent is quieter now,
both individually and internationally.
Too much to risk, too much to lose.
Left hanging awaiting the slightest push.
1984. Orwellian nightmare tenfold.
The dark ages returned, inquisitions.
War is looming, not over oil, not over land.
Free speech and democracy are at risk
From zealots and fools. Bigots and power hungry men in suits.

Speak now or forever lose thy tongue.
