What a woman!
Beauty, balls and brains!
Talented, gifted even.
But they don’t know
what it takes.
They don’t know
the price she pays
and how so very high
she raised the stakes.
They don’t realise
she’s forgotten how to be vulnerable.
Sassy, stylish and sexy
that’s what they say,
brave and go-getting,
turning heads…. go girl go!
But they can’t remember
what it’s like to sleep alone,
they don’t know
she’s forgotten how to share.
And yes, oh so cool intellect,
incisive diamond-scoring wit -
all that and a passion simmering beneath.
But they don’t have to say
hello and goodbye
they don’t know
she‘s forgotten how to cry.
They don’t know
that beneath the veneer -
that impenetrable smiling mask -
she’s scared,
that while they share,
she’s tired of being brave,
of making her own way.
They don’t know
she’s forgotten how to love.
They have forgotten,
she’s just a girl.
