Lamentably Alone

Alone,
the needles
of paranoid whispers
carve terrifying images
upon my mind's eye.

Nowhere to flee.

No place to forget.

Nobody to hold me.

The implosion
of my sense of self
sends shockwaves
upon an unsuspecting void,
an SOS that screeches
for your hand,
to hold
and savour.

But unforgiving freefall
has been long overdue,
and my smile cracks
in a hundred places
before falling
at your feet.

Will you pick up the pieces,
or walk on by?
