Dear God

Dear God,
Can you tell me why people believe in your words
While they cheat, while they lie and deceive.
Why the world's honest people you can count on one hand
And the rest, me included, are sure to be damned.
It's never been easy for people like me,
We're the doubters, the dreamers, we try hard to see.
But while wars and disasters sweep countries, rape lands,
You stare from the heavens, you don't take a stand.
Dear God
Please explain it, no lies or deceit,
How do people who follow you find their belief?
I'll never be perfect, I know that I lie,
But God
Are you real, are you there when we die?
Is it true that a soul can live on for a while
'Til it finds a new life in the fullness of time?
Is it true that all questions are answered in full
And I'll soon understand all I've asked.
Is it true?
Is there really no heaven - is hell just a myth?
Do spirits and spectres really exist?
So God
Will you answer or will you deceive,
For truth more than rumour will help me believe.
