Little Light.

This little light, the smallest flicker
Of the flame I knew,
Burns bright enough for me to feel
The love inside for you.
Imagine if it were the fire that once
Burnt blazing red and blue.

You did not take away its fuel
You stole its oxygen,
Stoked it with a hopeless pain
Carelessly, and then,
Watched it wither… did you watch?
Or did you turn away again?

And as the night grew cold and dark
You wondered where I’d gone.
Where was the flame you’d planned
To warm your tired feet upon?
You searched the ashes desperately
For anything to build on…

A little light, the smallest flicker
Of the flame you knew...
So slight but still enough to show
That love could grow anew.
Imagine if it were the fire that once
Burnt blazing red and blue.
