Word Count: 100
Summary: My dad used to dance with me when I was little to an awful song called “May the Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose”. An awful song but an abiding memory.

Bird of Paradise
is our signature tune
our father, daughter dance
is bright light
and laughter.
My tiny feet on yours
Secure and safe.

Spinning, spinning
one of us lets go.
I think it was you
but say me.
A choreography of
resentment
and regret.

Years of I love you’s
you needed to hear
that I couldn’t say.
Let the birds say them
for me now.
What harm
now you’re gone?

Our signature tune
is on my tongue
as I say goodbye.
Our father, daughter dance
is bright light
and laughter.
Paradise, I think
is full of birds.
