Birthday Celebration

In wartime she drove an ambulance.
Today she aims her car.
An angry young man blasts his horn.
She points to a mobile stuck to
His ear.
At home her anxious daughter asks,
'Where on earth have you been?’
‘Helped an old lady at checkout,’ she replies.
‘Poor woman must’ve been at least
Eighty three.’
She enters her sitting-room and is
surprised by a loud, unified cheer.
‘Happy Ninetieth Birthday,’
Friends and family sing to the
Sound of her laughter and a
Cork popping from celebration
champagne.
