Why are there tin tacks in my tree?
Today, there are four tin tacks in my tree.
My tree that stands here now
in front of you and me.
Did my tree weep silently
when they pressed those four sharp
green-headed tin tacks
into its tender bark?
Was the note,
pinned, four-square, on my tree
so important
that they couldn’t see
that my tree has feelings?
Just like you and me.
