Summary: A Flash fiction piece

The quiet of the balmy afternoon was broken by a faint discordant tune from afar.

A sense of familiarity seemed to cross my mind as the muffled sound increased in volume.

Excited inaudible chatter mixed with giggles seemed to compete with the tune as it increased in volume.

A mini stampede of little feet descended to the direction of the tune as the origin of the sound grew closer.

Innocents hypnotised by the unknown musical pied piper.

The tune seemed to rise to a crescendo then abruptly end as unexpectedly as it started.

The silence broken by an excitable high unbroken voice:

“Vanilla ice cream mister.”

I smiled as the first ice cream van heralded the beginning of the summer.
