Our first Christmas together, we were dating.
Smiling through uncomfortable introductions
to each others family.
Tick Tock
Married with children now, joy and laughter
on Christmas morn, then on to the in-laws for more,
this day never ends.
Tick Tock
Now teenagers bring their boyfriends and girlfriends
to endure endless introductions with uncomfortable smiles
And the meals get better each year.
Tick Tock
Our children bring their children, smiles and hugs all around
“We missed you last year, just look how they’ve grown!”
“Can we open presents now Grandma?”
Tick Tock
“Merry Christmas my love.” “Merry Christmas my dear”
Holding wrinkled hands in front of a cozy fire, alone, but not lonely.
We have our memories.
Tick Tock
Handwritten cards and smiles exchanged, we have all we need.
“Remember our first Christmas?” “Not as clearly as I want to.”
The cup of hot cocoa shakes in his hands.
Tick Tock, Tick……..
The wheel of time always turning, brings Christmas once a year
New additions to families come, some have gone, no longer here
Each new Christmas different then last, change we should not fear
The reason we celebrate Christmas, is with us throughout the year.
Smiling through uncomfortable introductions
to each others family.
