‘SHOW TIME’
The Lord went to pray, which was what he did best,
So we spent a while back at sea.
And while we were fishing, the wind went round west
And blew, as they say, “Contrary”!
It was black as the grave, the thunder would crash,
We were bailing as fast as we could,
Till, suddenly, lit by a forked lightning flash,
Out there, on the waves, someone stood!
To walk on the water! It cannot be done!
But of course, we’d forgotten the Almighty’s Son!
To say I was gob-smacked was as true as could be
Then, matter-of –fact, He called to me:
He said: “Peter, you can do it,
No, there’s really nothing to it.
All you’ve got to do is look me in the eye.
Just forget that it is water;
Come on, Peter, what you ought’er
Do is simply give it a try!
Yes; you’ll succeed if
You believe it’s what you need to
Show to the world who you trust!”
So I said: “Come on, Peter,
“No thought of defeat, it
“Is show time, triumph or bust!”
I hurdled the scuppers
To try to walk to him,
But soon, I’m on my uppers
Cos I’d not leaned to swim!
I thought I was drowning,
Water over my head,
I was still doing down
When he said:
He said: “Peter, you can do it,
No, there’s really nothing to it.
All you’ve got to do is look me in the eye.
Just forget that it is water;
Come on, Peter, what you ought’er
Do is simply give it a try!
Yes, you will reach me
If only it’s to teach me
You’re as stubborn and strong as I think!”
So I said: “Come on ,Peter,
Time to get on your feet if
You don’t, son, you’re going to sink.”
And a hand reached down
And grabbed my hair,
And he hauled me out
And we were standing there,
Him and me,
On the sea!
And He said: “Peter, you can do it,
“ No, there’s really nothing to it.
“All you’ve got to do is look me in the eye.
“Just forget that it is water;
“Come on, Peter, what you ought’er
“Do is simply give it a try!

“You believe it’s what you need to
“Show to the world who you trust!”
So I said: “Come on, Peter,
“No thought of defeat, it
“Is show time, triumph or bust!
“Show time-triumph or bust!”
