Pointless Striving

Sisyphusian striving
renders me frail.
Jaded,
so threadbare,
jaundice pallor
sickly pale.

My rolling rock,
much too heavy,
pushes back
'gainst my girth.
Mocking me,
cackling,
as I strain
against the earth.

Punishment
unsuited
to the nature
of my crime.
Humanity,
it seems,
can do no more
with its time.
