Fishing

Word Count: 95
Summary: Flash 1 challenge: If it's recognisable, it's grown a new life since last week.

Ten golden fish, their open mouths scooping up minute particles while the black cat, crouches on a white boulder, her motionless body blocking out sunlight.

Suddenly with claws extended, her green eyes narrowing, she plunges a paw beneath the surface scattering fish under a lily pad, sending ripples eddying outwards, dislodging water snails from their anchorage.

Now sunlight, cruelly blatant, shines down on the cat's golden prey writhing and flopping on concrete as its once gentle, scooping mouth gasps in slow suffocation.

And the black cat purrs in satisfaction, sinking her teeth into shimmering scales.
