Summary: Whatever one says about the present government it would appear, statistically at least, that Gordon Brown’s Labour party is winning the battle with regard to Hospital waiting lists. However all is not as it may seem.

Whatever one says about the present government it would appear, statistically at least, that Gordon Brown’s Labour party is winning the battle with regard to Hospital waiting lists. However all is not as it may seem.

In March 1997, just before Tony Blair came to power, 30,000 people in the Kent area had been waiting more than 26 weeks for a hospital operation.

In March of this year that figure was down to just 250.

Yet a recent Mori Poll suggests that only 27% of voters think public services have improved in that time. As many as 34% say they have actually got worse. So why is there this apparent misconception ?.

Talking from the five bedroomed detached house she inherited from her father, lucky bitch Lucy Harris claimed that the government statistics were rather misleading.

” When I moved to the Bromley area back in October 2002 I was awaiting a minor operation on my left knee. It was not considered to be high priority. I was sent a letter saying that in order to reduce waiting times the local Health Authority would like me to answer a short government survey . To be honest I was shocked by some of the questions. For example they asked me :

a] Would I consider going outside the Health Authority ?
b] Would I consider having my operation anywhere within the EC ?.
C] Would I be willing to have my operation over the Christmas period ?
d] Would I be willing to consider any operation ?

Mrs Harris continued,

“Believing the questions to be rather ambiguous I rang Bromley Health Authority. They said that if I was willing to have a triple heart bypass they could fit me in on Tuesday but otherwise I would have to wait as there was a general shortage of Orthopaedic Surgeons. I declined their offer but am considering a Orchidectomy early next month, whatever that is. ”

A government spokesman declined to comment . However he did suggest that if anyone was willing to have an Colonoscopy at Kings College Hospital, London at 10:20 am on Monday 21st January, he would personally pay their return cab fair.
